Windows Media Player Playback Problem - 2007/02/26 04:22 Here is the problem:

I was using WMP 11, and it would not playback some videos properly (for example, nba.com). The audio would work fine, but the video was low frame rate and jerky, stopping every 5 seconds or so like a glitch. This was NOT a streaming problem.

I came into the store and Sean solved the problem using the Boomers computer by rolling back to WMP 9. Smooth as silk. I did the same on my computer, and problem solved.

However, WMP 9 is not supported by XP and I have been encountering videos that would have a blank screen and only audio. So, I thought I would give WMP 10 a try.

Problem solved on the blank videos. Howver, back to square one on the nba.com problem (jerky playback). This is also true on a wmv file I have on my computer, it was blank with WMP 9, it is jerky with WMP 10 and although smooth with WMP Classic, it has other problems.

My question to you is,, how can I configure WMP 10 so that I don't have any playback problems?

I know it is not a streaming problem, as I changed the buffer to 30 seconds and that madeno difference. Further, the older videos have low demand and always play smoothly using WMP 9. Also, the file on my harddrive is jerky. I am at wits end, all help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Paul

Re:Windows Media Player Playback Problem - 2007/04/08 01:15 Have you tired updating your drivers? And if all goes does down the drain there are alternatives to WMP for example VLC.

First, no NBA.com never got back to me. I also notice the probem with some other clips too.

Second, I notice the exact same problem with www.canucks.com highlights

Third, my old computer ran WMP 10 and could view the videos no problem.

Further, all my drivers are up to date, and my friend with an old P4 and WMP 10 can view video clips from both these sites without any problems!

So, since this is my first Athlon system, I was wondering if this could possibly be anything to do with the CPU? When I run the sports clips and some video clips with WMP 10, the CPU is using about 40% usage. The same clips use about 11% with WMP Classic.

But it is not that WMP 10 is a hog, as it plays other clips at about 5%.

Still having the same problem, and the playoffs start soon!

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,

Paul

Re:Windows Media Player Playback Problem - 2007/04/11 07:07 Also comes up on sites like this one: http://www.hydroptere.com/accueil/images/videos/var/lang/FR/rub/19/movies/284.html

yet that plays fine on others' computers. This is crazy!

Re:Windows Media Player Playback Problem - 2007/04/11 23:35 As I had suggested before try using a different video player.

And I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this is a software related problem and it should not have anything to do with the fact that you run Athlon.
